1 John 1: 8-10 If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word has no place in our lives.
Many people look onto the church, and are either “turned off” or feel inadequate due to the strict moral standard that is backed by the church. Most of that standard is based off of the standard of holiness some however, is excessive. That’s not my point in this blog. My point is that many people are turned off because members of the church are falling off and missing the mark of holiness that they/we preach.
Now, am I suggesting that we back off of the standard that God commands? NO, not at all. Am I saying that the members of the church are perfect? NO, definitely not, I fall short of God’s standard, thoughts and intentions aren’t always on the up and up, I’ll be honest.
My heart is that people don’t view the God that I strive to serve faithfully with the same view that they use for me or any other believer. Don’t look at a partially finished painting as a reflection of the artist look at the final product. But until the final painting is produced, view the artist in his creative genious.
I, just like anyone else reading this blog, am human, imperfect and flawed. So I won’t sit here and act as if I’m perfect, because as verse 8 says, I’d be deceiving myself and the truth of the Gospel wouldn’t be in me. But verse 9 is where I place my hope and trust, that if I CONFESS my sin, He’s faithful and just to FORGIVE and PURIFY. He’ll continue to perfect the work He’s started in me. The artist will complete the portrait.
Philipians 1:6 For I am confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus
