This issue has been a HOT TOPIC. Bishop Eddie Long has been accused of sexual abuse on a few young man. These allegations have sullied his name and as I expected the world took him to task. HOWEVER, I did NOT expect it to this magnitude nor did I expect BELIEVERS to be so hard on Bishop Long.

Say what you want about his presentation of the Gospel, but he does claim Jesus Christ as his LORD and SAVIOR. As I viewed the reception and response to Long by many who claim to be believers, and I was truly saddened. Many are GOING IN on Twitter with the Trending Topics like #bishopeddielongringtones and #bishopeddielonghairpiece even a fictitious account tweeting disparaging “church quotes” bastardized to fit this allegation.

It’s sad that many believers find the situation comical, a brother is facing a serious, life-threatening allegation and we make a point to drag and sling him and his family through the mud. I don’t know if he’s innocent or guilty, and I’m not here to make that judgment, God and the appointed officials and judges are, but to comment on our behavior, we’ve GOT to do BETTER!

A few passages of scripture come to mind for me:

Matthew 7:1-5

1 Judge not, that ye be not judged.

2 For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again.

3 And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother’s eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?

4 Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Let me pull out the mote out of thine eye; and, behold, a beam is in thine own eye?

5 Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother’s eye.

Note that in verse two, Jesus tells us that with WHATEVER standard we hold a person to; we will in turn be held to that standard. Also in verse five, He tells us to correct the mistakes and flaws in our life so that we can HELP the brother/sister to correct themselves as well.

Matthew 7:12

12 Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets.

How would you feel if either your life was exposed or someone placed allegations on you and it became a WORLDWIDE Trending Topic on the TOP Social Network? People have committed suicide for rumors spreading in their neighborhood, and we are crucifying this man on allegations

Galatians 6:1

1 Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such an one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted.

Nuff said, the Word of God clearly instructs believers to RESTORE a fallen brother, not KICK him when He’s down. It also says to do it in meekness, meaning humbly, unless you also be tempted to fall into sin.

I pray that our hearts are softened and we realized the magnitude of the situations we face. People’s lives are greatly affected by the WORDS you say. So please be mindful of what you say, it could mean someone’s life.

Food for Thought:

Isaiah 59:1 Behold, the LORD’s hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; neither his ear heavy, that it cannot hear:

He can ALWAYS save!
